 Information about Simon C-J

Simon is 20 years old and has grown up in North Rocks in the North West of Sydney. He spends his time hanging out with friends, playing music and volunteering at Mars Hill Cafe in Parramatta.

Simon has a servant heart and has felt the call of God to serve overseas. He has been to Mexico, Thailand and Cambodia before on short-term trips. He is now preparing to return to Cambodia for a two year Gi6pro placement with Global Interaction.

When in Cambodia, Simon will initially spend time in intense language training in Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia. He will then move to Poipet, a small town on the north-west border between Cambodia and Thailand. There he will be involved in various tasks, including teaching English, coaching sports teams and running programs in the local high schools. He will also help host short-term Global Xposure teams that visit Cambodia.

Simon is excited about the opportunities he will have to connect with the young people of Poipet and believes that if he gives all of what he has, God can produce great things.

Prayer Points - July 2011

1. Please pray for the Khmer people that they will be empowered to find a unique way of following Jesus.

2. For the Global Interaction team in Cambodia as they continue their important work among the Khmer people

3. For the young people of Poipet

4. For my day surgery on Monday, that I will make a quick recovery and be able to get back into work and partnership Development

5. For all the cross cultural workers I’ve met over the past month (there’s been a lot) that as they prepare to leave Australia they remain faithful to the call of God in their lives (that Goes for me too)

Greetings from Melbourne…

Thankyou

Firstly I would to say thank you to everyone who has kept in contact with me whilst I’ve been away, I’ve enjoyed hearing from you. Feel free to get in contact with me at anytime if you would like me to visit your church, small group, playgroup, youth group or just catch up one on one for a coffee (I love coffee).

Thankyou to all who have been praying for me, it’s been a BIG four weeks, But I’ve learnt so much and have loved it all.

Where I’ve been

For the past month in Melbourne I’ve participated in 3 training courses to help me prepare for life in Cambodia.

I’ve completed the Mill Course (Maximum Impact Language Learning) where we studied phonetics, vowel sounds, Methods of language learning and why it’s so important.

Transition Training, which helped me to identify some of the struggles I will face when I first arrive and methods to help me deal with them. I also learnt how to dance.

Lastly a Partnership Preparation course, Where we looked at all the nuts and bolts of partnership development.

I’ve found this time of learning refreshing and focusing and I’m looking forward to coming back to Sydney and continuing this journey with you and others I meet along the way.

What’s Next

I touch down in Sydney on Friday night and have the weekend off (Including a box seat at the Wallabies test on Sunday afternoon). On Monday I’m having day surgery to get my 4 wisdom teeth out, I have the rest of the week off to recover, then I will get back into visiting churches and small groups throughout July and August. I’ll be attending the Reachout Conference in August as part of the Global Interaction team (and possibly making an appearance as a Barista..stay tuned)

I have 2 more training courses this year

  • Specifics (29 Aug- 2 Sep Melbourne)
  • Context Training (26 Sep-30 Sep Brisbane)

In Context training we explore issues of Global & Local mission. The event is open for anyone to attend, so if you have a heart for local or Global mission and want some more details just send me an email.
